Description

This fragment of a marble lion figure was found in the well on the citadel of Karabalgasun. It depicts a seated lion, of which only the chest and the lower part of the head have survived. At the back of the head, the mane is depicted with curled locks. A beard is indicated with three strands on the chest. The mouth is open, and the teeth are bared. The lion probably belonged to a figuratively designed railing surrounding the well, together with the small column bases and pedestals that were also found.
