Belt Fitting

Description

Strap fitting with a quatrefoil-shaped base and a depiction of a crouching hare. There are two cast rivet pins on the back, which were used to attach it to a leather strap. A third rivet pin was attached during a subsequent repair or reworking and was driven through the surface of the object. Its head can be seen as a green patinated bump next to the hare’s head.

The fitting was cast from bronze, then reworked with hallmarks and gilded.
